As Liz is returning to studio 6H, the TGS with Tracy Jordan studio, she meets Jack. In his office, he tells her about a promotion he is planning to launch called SeinfeldVision, a month of programming starring Jerry Seinfeld made possible with footage from his sitcom, Seinfeld, being edited into programs. After hearing of Jack's plan, Jerry Seinfeld arrives at 30 Rock to confront Jack. Jack and Jerry agree to shorten the promotion to just one night.
Liz is seeking closure after breaking up with her boyfriend Floyd during the summer and a chance encounter with Seinfeld gives her the advice she needs, so she calls Floyd only for another woman to pick up the phone. While dealing with her problems, Liz and Jenna are invited to be Cerie's maids of honour. They accept the invitation. Cerie takes them shopping for her wedding dress, and when asked to try one on, Liz decides to buy one.
After performing in Mystic Pizza: The Musical, Jenna has become fat and is trying to distract people from noticing it, to no avail. Tracy has separated from his wife, Angie Jordan and is living in his dressing room having Kenneth as his "office wife," to take care of the non-sexual acts that Tracy's wife would normally perform.
Jack realizes that his boss Don Geiss is hinting that he will retire and believes that he, Jack, is a definite candidate to take over Don's job, as the CEO of General Electric. Jack's only other opposition is Devon, who has returned from the west coast, only now with a fiancée who happens to be Kathy Geiss, Don's daughter. Upon returning, Devon, who is secretly gay, finds out from Kenneth about Jack's secret heart attack. At a gathering at Don's house, the pair face off against one another during a game of football.
Tracy is still struggling with his marriage to Angie, who had thrown him out of their family home. Later in this episode, the pair reconcile, but only if Tracy allows for Angie to follow him to make sure that he isn't having an affair.
Jenna becomes attached to her newly gained fat when a mishap during a sketch, on TGS with Tracy Jordan, brings her large amounts of attention from the public. Liz is still re-adjusting to life outside of a relationship.
After their separation, Tracy and his wife Angie get back together on the condition that Tracy must never leave her sight. Liz is surprised to find Tracy on time in his dressing room, although Angie confesses that she cannot take care of Tracy alone, and asks for Liz's help. Angie leaves to take care of personal issues, trusting Liz to watch over him. Busy with her own work, Liz forgets about her promise and Tracy leaves for a strip club. When Angie returns, Liz lies about his whereabouts and tries to cover her mistake, however Angie realizes that Tracy has been to a strip club, and blames the situation on Liz. Angie demands that all decisions regarding sketch ideas be run through her first, and rejects all of Liz's ideas. To solve the problem, Liz offers Angie "consultant" credit, but she declines the offer. Liz decides to fight Angie, but Tracy scolds the women for their immature behavior and he reconciles with Angie.
Jack hires Len to investigate his past when he learns that he is a possible candidate for the position of president at G.E.. Knowing that the company is looking for anything that could possibly embarrass them, Jack hires Len to find anything incriminating before the company does. When Len discovers that Jack has a collection of cookie jars, he advises him to get rid of them. Jack cannot bear to destroy his cookie jars, and when he realizes Kenneth has a similar enjoyment, he gives him the collection. Jenna has become more famous after gaining weight, and sorts through large amounts of fan mail. Jack congratulates her on her weight, and Jenna enjoys her new friendship with him. While talking to Liz, Jenna begins to worry about losing weight, and fears her popularity will decline. Upset that Jenna is losing weight, Jack sends Kenneth to follow her around and make sure she keeps her weight on. Liz tells Kenneth to insult Jenna if he wants her to eat more, and writes down a list of things to say to Jenna to hurt her. Jenna takes the insults as compliments, and tries to seduce Kenneth.
Jack announces that Liz is the winner of the "G.E. Followship Award", a prize awarded to the G.E. employee who best exemplifies a follower, which also includes $10,000. Liz takes Pete to a book signing to meet Rosemary Howard, her idol when she was a girl, and invites her to be a guest writer on "The Girlie Show". Rosemary pitches several controversial ideas to Jack, who orders Liz to fire her, but when Liz refuses, Jack fires them both. Liz goes to Rosemary's house, and once she realizes that Rosemary is crazy, she flees. Liz goes back to Jack's office and begs for her job back, and he happily rehires her. Jack promises to help Liz invest her prize money, and she swears that she will send Rosemary $400 a month for the rest of her life.
When Tracy causes a stir at a public event, Jack assures him that as a movie star, he can do anything he wants, except for dog fighting. Jack finds Tracy disobeying his order, but Tracy shouts that Jack is not his dad. Jack and Tracy meet with an NBC shrink, and Jack role-plays Tracy's father, Tracy, and Tracy's mom, among several other people from Tracy's childhood, conveying the message that even though Tracy's parents may have divorced, they still loved him. This comforts Tracy, and affirms that while he loves his family, they are crazy, and he needs to stay away from them. Tracy hugs Jack, and tells him that he is the only family he needs.
Jenna accidentally burns Kenneth's page jacket on a hot plate, and Kenneth worries that head page Donny Lawson will punish him. Jenna finds Donny backstage at the studio, who is ecstatic that he finally has a reason to send Kenneth to CNBC in New Jersey. Donny offers Kenneth a choice: go to New Jersey, or compete in a "page off", a contest of physical stamina and NBC trivia; Jenna agrees to the page off. Before the event starts, Pete comes in and yells at the pages to get back to work. He forces Donny to give Kenneth a new jacket, but Donny swears to Jenna and Kenneth that he will get back at them.
Don Geiss, the chairman of General Electric, challenges Jack to come up with an idea to make money "from this environmentalism trend." This leads to him casting an actor called Jared to play Greenzo, NBC's environmental mascot. Initially, Greenzo is a success, making a well received appearance on The Today Show. This is until he conducts a second interview, with Meredith Vieira, when he begins ranting negatively about "big companies and their two-faced, fat cat executives," referring to GE and Jack. Angrily, Jack fires Jared and attempts to trick Al Gore, the former Vice President of the United States, into replacing him to no avail.
Meanwhile, Kenneth is planning a party. Knowing this, Liz recounts past parties of Kenneth's to Tracy, telling him that she was the only other person who attended those parties. Feeling pity for Kenneth, Tracy tells the biggest gossips on TGS with Tracy Jordan, Grizz and Dot Com, that T.I. will be attending. They persuade other people to attend by telling various other lies. The resulting party is so disastrous that Kenneth decides never to throw a party again.
When Liz finds another woman's lipstick in her apartment, she and Jenna begin to suspect that Pete, who is separated from his wife, is having an affair. Liz later discovers, much to her horror, that Pete is having an "affair" with his own wife, Paula Hornberger.
At a party in honour of Robert Novak, which is being thrown by John McCain and Jack Bauer, Jack meets C.C., the Democratic congresswoman for Vermont. After the party, Jack and C.C. go back to Jack's apartment and have sex together. The following morning, Jack discovers that C.C. is suing the Sheinhardt Wig Company, the fictional owner of General Electric, the company that Jack works for. This is due to the company allegedly leaking some Auburn Fantasy Dye Number 260 into the Chicktaugua River, which caused the children of Chickataugua to turn orange. After discovering that Jack works for GE, C.C. leaves and goes to work at Bill Clinton's office in Harlem. Jack and Tracy, follow her there and Jack and C.C. decide to carry on their relationship in secret.
Liz is worried when she smells maple syrup in her apartment and Jack tells her that it could be the chemical agent Northrax. She suspects that her new neighbour, Raheem, is a terrorist due to him having maps in his apartment and her seeing him and his brother, Hakeem, on an agility course in the park. Liz is shocked to discover that the pair were auditioning for The Amazing Race and in fact not terrorists. After bringing Jack's suit back from the dry cleaners, Kenneth discovers that he has lost the trousers from the suit. Frank, Toofer" and Josh Girard pay him to complete various dares so that he can pay for a new pair of trousers.
Liz develops a crush on Jamie, the new twenty year-old coffee delivery man, and after some initial hesitation, she agrees to go on a date with him. Before the date, Liz gets cold feet, but she is encouraged to attend by Jenna, who declares Liz a cougar, a term describing "hot older ladies pouncing on their young prey". Liz agrees and goes on a successful date with Jamie; the pair agree to go on a second date. Prior to this second date, Liz goes to Jamie's apartment only to discover that Jamie still lives with his mother, who looks exactly like Liz.
Frank begins to question his sexuality when he realizes that he has a crush on Jamie. He even tries to, unsuccessfully, rival Liz to go on a date with Jamie. Later, Frank realizes that the only man he is attracted to is Jamie and decides that he is in fact not gay.
Tracy is ordered to do community service in the form of coaching the Knuckle Beach Little League Baseball Team. Knuckle Beach happens to be "the worst neighborhood in New York". Hoping to inspire the team, Jack agrees to help Tracy and he donates uniforms to the team on behalf of the Sheinhardt Wig Company which is NBC's fictitious parent company. Jack replaces Tracy with Kenneth because he realizes that even with the new found inspiration from both Jack and Tracy, the team is still failing. The team begins to revolt when they find out that Tracy has been fired. To counter this, Jack forms a coalition with Tracy and they replace members of the team with Grizz and Dot Com.

Jack is worried when his girlfriend C.C., the Democratic congresswoman for the state of Vermont, tells him that she wants to go public with their relationship. The pair had been avoiding this because C.C. is suing the Sheinhardt Wig Company, the fictional parent company of General Electric. During their secret relationship, Jack and C.C. had been sneaking to each other's house in disguises, including C.C. as a plumber named Mr. Spoonatelli. C.C. confides in Liz (after she finds out about their relationship), and Jack confides in political consultant James Carville, who gives Jack advice on how two important people from opposite political positions can make their relationship work 'Cajun Style,' without regard for how others perceive them. Eventually, Jack takes C.C. to dinner in the GE executive dining room where he reveals his relationship to the other executives, leading to the other executives making some bizarre revelations of their own.
When Jenna wins an award for her work on Mystic Pizza: The Musical: The Movie, in the category of "Best Actress in a Movie Based on a Musical Based on a Movie", Tracy is annoyed that he never wins any awards of his own. When Liz feels sorry for him, she tells him that he has won a Pacific Rim Emmy Award for his work on TGS with Tracy Jordan, a fictional sketch comedy series. Pete helps Liz stage a fake acceptance speech for Tracy, which is also attended by Tracy's co-stars, Jenna and Josh. When Tracy recognises nearly everybody who works on the show, except for Jenna, Jenna gets angry and claims that Liz is willing to jump through hoops for Tracy, but not her. As a result, she becomes disobedient and unco-operative and starts her own entourage, much like Tracy. Liz, distraught with Jenna's new behavior, reveals to her that she in fact "coddles the crap" out of her as well as Tracy. Liz then reveals that Jenna did not win an award for Mystic Pizza: The Musical: The Movie and that the "award" statue was actually a cookie (by taking a bite out of it).
After a night of performing stand up at Harvard University, Frank comes into work wearing a Harvard jersey, even though he did not attend the university. Outraged by this, Harvard alumnus "Toofer" tells him to take it off. When Frank refuses, the pair begin to argue, even going to the extent of dressing up as each other constantly. Their argument is also eventually mediated 'Cajun Style' by James Carville, who then proceeds to also demonstrate how to steal candy from a vending machine 'Cajun Style'.
Jack is delighted when he thinks his mother, Colleen, is unable to visit him for the holidays due to her flight from Florida being grounded by Hurricane Zapato. Unexpectedly, Colleen arrives because she was able to travel by bus to Atlanta and get a flight from there. Also arriving at 30 Rockefeller Plaza is Liz's family, including her brother Mitch who has "Trauma Induced Nivea Aphasia" which means that his memory is stuck on December 7, 1985 and he believes that he is still 17 years old, when he is actually 40. Jack's mother immediately dislikes the Lemons due to their constant optimism and happiness. Colleen sets out to put a stop to this. Jack, Colleen and the Lemons spend the day together and eventually end up going to dinner with each other. At the dinner, Colleen comments that it appears that Liz is the "favorite" child leading Mitch to reveal that his parents, Dick and Margaret, took him to see The Goonies in 1985 when they should have been watching Liz at her football game. Liz then accidentally reveals to Mitch that he is in fact 40 years old. The Lemons then spiral into a drunken argument, achieving Colleen's plan.
Meanwhile, the cast and writers of TGS are preparing their annual Ludachristmas party in the writer's room. Tracy is annoyed because he is unable to attend due to a recent order from a courtroom judge which requires him to wear an alcohol monitoring ankle bracelet. Kenneth is also annoyed because he believes that none of the staff know what the true meaning of Christmas is. He cancels Ludachristmas and makes the staff sit through a talk, led by himself and Reverend Gary, about the meaning of Christmas. This inspires the cast and writers to run outside of 30 Rock and tear down the big Christmas tree which is outside the building. Kenneth eventually stops their efforts and Tracy reveals that he has been drinking alcohol when he should not have been.
Tracy buys a coffee machine and puts it on Kenneth's desk, causing him to develop a caffeine addiction. Kenneth believes that he has been "sodomized", and feels guilty that he has let New York change him, contrary to a promise he made to his mother. He therefore decides to return to Georgia on the midnight train; however, he gets confused with the departure time and stays. Meanwhile, Liz takes Jack's advice to invest in real estate, and Jenna tells Liz that her business manager is selling his apartment. The sale is subject to the approval of the building's cooperative board, but Liz makes a bad impression and her purchase offer is rejected. Liz gets herself drunk and makes numerous phone calls to the board.
Jack is involved in negotiations to acquire a German cable television network, but is struggling to juggle his job and his relationship with C.C., whose work has taken her to Washington DC. Unable to see each other when they want to, the couple decide to "meet in the middle" (in a betting parlor in Pennsylvania), but this arrangement proves unsuitable and they later decide to break up. Jack, in conversation with Liz, compares his relationship to Liz's previous relationship with Floyd, and Liz declares in song that she has to go.
The cast and crew of TGS with Tracy Jordan gather to watch the season finale of Jack's summer reality show hit MILF Island, a series of which the plot is described as "25 Super-Hot Moms, 50 eighth grade boys, no rules." The staff soon discover that one of them told a reporter for The New York Post that Jack was a "Class A Moron" and that "He can eat my poo." They then spiral into an argument as they try to find out who made the statement. Kenneth later recalls that he heard Liz, in an elevator, making the statement to the journalist. Liz makes a false promise that she will tell Jack that it was her to avoid him hearing the truth from Kenneth. Liz finally reveals the truth to Jack only to find out that he already knew it was she who said it, and he's not going to fire her--instead, she has to put together a new TV series for MILF Island's manipulative competitor Deborah.
Meanwhile, as he is planning to watch the season finale of MILF Island alone in his office, Pete gets stuck in a vending machine while trying to steal a candy bar. Pete's many attempts to break free from the machine end in failure when the machine ends up falling on him.
When invited to Jack's office, Liz is asked whether or not she would mind having her former boyfriend, Dennis, appear on TGS with Tracy Jordan, a fictional sketch comedy series. Since they last met, Dennis saved somebody's life at a subway station and has become a local celebrity. Liz and Dennis meet up where she agrees to let him appear on the show. Jenna is weary and warns Liz not to let herself fall in love with Dennis again. When Liz realizes she does still have feelings for him, an excuse to get rid of him is presented when Dennis' "15 minutes of fame" are up and Liz revokes her invitation. Liz later follows him to 47th–50th Streets–Rockefeller Center subway station where he tries to regain his subway hero title by throwing her onto the tracks of an oncoming train.
Jack is looking for a famous face to represent the Republican political party. After struggling to find somebody, he selects Tracy for the position. One of Jack's failed candidates, Bucky Bright, befriends Kenneth during a tour of 30 Rockefeller Plaza; Bucky shares a number of stories about the early days of television that initially repel and confuse Kenneth.
Jack meets with retiring corporate head Don Geiss, who discloses that he has chosen Jack over his soon-to-be son-in-law Devon to run the company. Jack is overjoyed and chooses Liz to replace himself as Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming. Liz accepts when she learns of the higher salary and tells her staff "Suck it monkeys, I'm going corporate." Meanwhile, Devon returns with intent to sabotage Jack, but Liz attempts to make Devon look bad by forcibly making out with him in front of a security camera.
At this time, Tracy begins to feel he is an embarrassment to his son. Hoping to make his family proud, Tracy searches for a legacy and decides to produce the world's first pornographic video game. Despite Frank's skepticism, Tracy has some success in designing the game by conquering the uncanny valley, a scale on which the strangeness of special effects are measured.
A depressed Devon becomes resigned to the fact that Jack will receive the promotion. Don Geiss, however, goes into a diabetic coma, despite the efforts of Dr. Spaceman, before he can announce his decision. Devon denies knowing that Geiss had chosen Jack as his successor. The next day, Devon appears in Jack's office, revealing he has convinced the board to put Cathy Geiss, his fiancée, in charge, with Devon acting as the power behind the throne. He then kicks Jack out of his office.
It is the annual Sandwich Day for the crew of TGS. The Teamsters, led by Mickey J., bring in "secret" sandwiches from an unknown Italian delicatessen in Brooklyn. When the writers eat Liz's sandwich, Liz threatens that she will "cut [their] faces up so bad [...] [they'll] all have chins." As a result, the writers and Tracy, aided by Jenna, enter a drinking contest against the Teamsters in an attempt to get Liz a new sandwich.
Floyd, who broke up with Liz in the episode "Hiatus," calls Liz to ask if he can have a place to stay, as he has come to visit New York on business. Liz tries to win Floyd back, only for him to lie to her about going home to Cleveland, Ohio. Floyd eventually travels home, and the pair agree to remain friends.
Meanwhile, after being ousted from his office on the 52nd floor by Devon Banks, Jack is not taking well to his new job on the 12th floor. He later decides to move to Washington, D.C., to be the new "Homeland Security Director for Crisis and Weather Management."
Jack gets a job in politics as the "Homeland Security Director for Crisis and Weather Management"; however, it is not what he expected. When he learns that Don Geiss, the CEO of General Electric, said "Jackie Boy" while in his coma, he schemes with another government employee, Cooter, to get fired after his letter of resignation is rejected. Jack also enlists the help of Celeste "C.C." Cunningham, his Congresswoman (D-VT) ex-girlfriend, to approve research into a "gay bomb". Jack hopes that the bomb, an old Pentagon project that is expensive, inefficient and offensive to "both the red states and the gayer, blue states" will ultimately result in their dismissal.
Meanwhile, Liz thinks she may be pregnant and is horrified when she discovers it is most likely the baby of her ex-boyfriend, Dennis Duffy. After several pregnancy tests, she tells a visiting Jack that the positive tests are a result of her eating cheese puffs, which contain bull semen. Nevertheless, she tells Jack that she is ready to have a child and wants to adopt. Kenneth learns of an opportunity to be an NBC page at the Beijing Olympics, however head page Donny Lawson tries to make sure that he does not submit his essay on time. Jenna helps him complete his essay, but Donny stalls Kenneth by forcing him to deliver paper. Pete shoots Donny in the leg with an arrow and Kenneth delivers his essay in time. Tracy's invention, the world's first pornographic video game, is nearly complete. He gives Frank, who has helped him, the prototype copy of the game.
The episode shows what happens three months later, in August 2008. Jack and Cooter present their "gay bomb" to the Pentagon, which only works in closed areas, thus useless in combat. However, Cooter accidentally breaks the vial, causing everybody in the room, including Vice-president Dick Cheney, to "feel funny". Frank emerges from his office after playing Tracy's game non-stop for three months, not realizing the amount of time that has passed. While in Beijing, Kenneth gets involved with a Chinese woman who wants his kidneys. The last point was said in Mandarin without subtitles, leaving the English-speaking audience unaware of Kenneth's trouble.
